The fatal accident at Banastarim which occurred on Sunday has been shrouded in doubt as police and some eyewitnesses continue to narrate different stories. While Paresh has been remanded to 5-day police custody, his wife, Meghna, has been granted interim relief from arrest. Irate locals, however, refuse to let up.

Paresh Sawardekar, the man reportedly driving the vehicle according to police, has been remanded to 5-day police custody. He was arrested and brought to Mardol police station earlier today. His wife, Meghna Sawardekar, meanwhile, has been granted interim relief from arrest.

Irate locals from Divar, at around 1.30 PM today, protested outside the Mardol Police after police failed tohonor their promise of arresting Meghna Sawardekar. Following last night's fiasco at the police station, Police had assured that Meghna would be arrested by 12 PM today. Confronted by the irate crowd, police PI Mohan Gaude, said that police were unable to arrest Meghna because she wasn’t at home.

Locals, however, refused to accept the reason, asserting that police have the capacity to nab anyone in a matter of hours. Alleging VIP treatment to the rich and a whip to common the man, TMC’s Samir Volvoikar had this to say.

Adding a further twist to the story, a lady has now come forward and alleged that one of the panch witnesses in the accident was bought in by police and made to give false testimony.
