ALDONA BRIDGE IN PATHETIC CONDITION

The Aldona-Corjuem cable stayed Bridge, a once touted to be a signature one, is now in pathetic condition. During the previous Assembly Session, MLA Carlos Ferreira had raised the issue, but no action has been taken by the Sawant-led BJP Govt till date.

The bridge constructed during ManoharParrikar’s tenureas Chief Minister has had no maintenance work done in the 18 years since its inauguration.

The bridge’s railings are surrounded by shrubs and the pillars supporting the railings are corroding. Threatening to give way any time.While local MLA Carlos Alvarez Ferreira had brought the bridge to the attention of the government in the assembly session it remains ignored

Bottles, cans, plastic bags and garbage are piling up all over the bridge, left behind by locals and passerby, who visit the bridge.The question arises whether it is only the Governments responsibility t to keep the state clean.

  Live wires stick out from nearly every pole and board installed along the bridge, threating lives of those passing through. Unbothered officials have left the once famous cable – stayed bridge worse for wear

The footpath, railings and support pillars are all showing signs of wear. While metal pillars are corroding, shrubs and creepers are springing out from every nook and cranny of the footpath.
