Chairperson Elections: Ravi Naik settles son Ritesh in Ponda, Rashmi takes charge of Sanquelim

The chairpersons to Ponda and Sanquelim Municipalities were elected today. Rashmi Desai, backed by the BJP, saw a comfortable way to the top chair in Sanquelim without any opposition. Ponda meanwhile saw MLA Ravi Naik’s son, RiteshNaik, return to power, putting the Naik family in full political control of Ponda.

RiteshNaik, backed by his father Ravi Naik and the BJP, will serve as chairperson of Ponda for a 2nd consecutive term. Deepa Kolvekar will be his deputy.

Sanquelim meanwhile, which saw the BJP take a landslide victory after nearly a decade managed to put up their Chairperson and deputy unopposed. Rashmi Naik and AnandKanekar will now serve as the Chairperson and deputy Chairperson in Sanquelim, the chief minister’s home town.
